Use this information to inform your career decisions, is this career right for you?, and to help you prepare to meet employers. This program is password protected, contact the Career Centre for the user name and password to access this database off-campus. Options in Commerce
This UCS sponsored event recruits speakers from within the finance industry and designation representatives to provide information gathering and networking opportunities to students of all years.
Employers overwhelmingly report that they recognize the students who choose to attend these events and that these personal contacts play a role in the recruitment process. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to network with company representatives, alumni and fellow students. Finance and Marketing Seminars
The UCS holds separate sessions for the finance and marketing industries to help students connect with industry representatives, learn more about the industry as a whole and companies in specific, and practice your networking skills. The nature and timing of the seminars varies by year, refer to the UCS website for details.
This is Your Future
This is Your Future is a UCS event typically held in March and offers students an opportunity to meet with a variety of company representatives to network while learning more about opportunities within each organization. Past participants have included Manulife Financial, BDO, Matson Driscoll and Damico, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, and ICAO.
Although the event is targeted towards students in their second and third years of study, first year students comprise a large number of the attendants and are welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to learn about accounting functions in organizations outside of the Big Four, practice speaking with recruiters, and gain experience in the accounting industry to help determine where your career interests lie. Extern Program
Apply to the Extern Program for an opportunity to explore a career by visiting someone in their workplace for one to four days. This is an excellent opportunity to better understand the day-to-day activities of an occupation, assess whether this is a career you'd like to pursue, to explore new careers, and to connect with those in a position to advise you.
The Extern Program is open to full time students who have completed a year of studies and have a researched career interest they would like to explore further. Applications for the February session are typically due in October and the May session in February, first year students are eligible to apply for the May session. Applications are available in the Career Centre, further information can be found here Big Four Seminars
Traditionally, the Big Four accounting firms conduct seminars such as mock interview and resume sessions to get to know students while helping you prepare professionally. The opportunity to practice your skills and learn more about the companies you're applying to are reason enough to attend these sessions, however, the opportunity to further build your relationships with recruiters makes these sessions a "must" for attendance.
Timing for these sessions varies by year; the Department of Management , UCS and Career Centre will carry information for upcoming events. Overview by year:(click here to view)
